The Losers are Losing Afghanistan, Imagine That

March 8, 2009

From the New York Times:

WASHINGTON — President Obama declared in an interview that the United States was not winning the war in Afghanistan and opened the door to a reconciliation process in which the American military would reach out to moderate elements of the Taliban, much as it did with Sunni militias in Iraq.

Nothing says “your a loser” like declaring a mission a failure while it’s still going on as well as when your about to send 17,000 more people to a situation you deemed a failure. Nothing instills confidence more to fight than knowing your going in to a losing battled.  Especially when it comes from the White House.  And nothing says “your a loser” more than having to say we need to start reaching out to our enemies because well, we lost.  It doesnt help that the losers, that would be us, no we are going in to a conflict where defense spending is going to be cut and it’s already justified like the post below I bumped up to go with this “loser” piece.  Nothing instills confidence like listening to someone tell you, you have already failed.

No strategy.  No nothing.  Who will support anything that has been described as a lost cause?  A better question would be where are all of those military leaders up there at the Pentagon right about now?  Umm don’t mean to step out of my lane but there is something seriously wrong with this picture. I could understand if there was a strategy used or even articulated and then when it failed, okay I could understand.  But pray tell how do you motivate people to a mission already deemed unsuccessful?
